My mom used to make these for us as kids. They are nice cause you just eat the cone and you are done, no clean up!
I modified this by using itty bitty ice cream cones. I love tiny things. Too cute, and just the right amount for a 3 year old to gobble up.
Just make a batch of cake batter, and fill the cones. You'll find it easier to transfer to the oven if you stand them up in a cupcake tin.
Then. frost with a simple frosting, dyed to look like ice cream, OR you can just add loads o sprinkles like my Kid did.
To transport these to school, I took a shoe box top, lined it with paper and saran wrap, then cut holes (or squares) in it.
Just plop the cones in, and you are ready to go!
